"Unmolested" eh? Someone needs to seriously interfere with !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ... I'm thinking WRX drivetrain, rally equipment, blue metallic livery and gold wheels.

I'd leave it stock, and leave the Hoon-Esque modifications for a higher mileage example. It's also Autotragic.

Why not just get a wrx with the drivetrain already installed and the paint already blue?

Because anyone with enough money can buy one ... this would be unique!

Yep the slushbox is the first reason for swapping the drivetrain.

Just seems the price is way to high for a project car that will require another donor car. I get that having something unique is great but at what cost?

Nataliedee did a comic about this car, years back.

Yes, even in great shape this is at most a $4,000 car retail (negotiation is key). You could sell the existing drivetrain for between $1,000 - $1,200 since it should be in good shape. Say $3,000 net then start adding pieces. You could potentially be back on the road with a neat ride for $7,000 - $9,000 depending on your wrenching skills. I've seen guys spend that on other cars here so not out of line.

I could get on board with spending 3-4 for the car but almost 7k is crazy.
